oooh she's so purdy

I noticed around 6:00 pm Odette was going to be blooming tonight. Odette was a friend of my moms who passed away a few years ago from cancer. Mom, on one of the visits over to Odette's asked if she could pinch a piece of her night orchid off and try to grow one. Well, my mother had an unbelievable green thumb. That one lil piece has multiplied by many and even passed on many plants to others. So, here is an Ode to Odette, gone but never forgotten, her beauty lives on. We enjoy it several times a year. The last time was in April when I highlighter. She only blooms late at night. So, I stayed my butt up last night to capture this for ya'll...enjoy!
This is taken at 9:00pm and shot till 1:00 am
the above stage reminds me of LiL shop of horrors.. Feed Me Seymour

one of my favorites the swirl of the center..blow it up and enjoy it
I wish ya'll could smell it, it is just as divine as a magnolia
except it smells the whole area up you know it is blooming when you step outside
she gets so big I can hardly get all of her in the picture

pretty cool, covering the flash up
another cool one

How long do they stay like that after they bloom?

Heh.

Y'all see I'm first again, right?

I probably don't even have to point it out to you anymore.

Braja would've beat me except for she out cavorting with caffeinated beverages and dingos.

And now she will probably find a way to use her powers to take me down.

The most we have had bloom at the same time is 6..the smell oh the smell..if I could bottle it, I would be rich!

I wonder if they will grow here in Vermont. I'll have to ask Hus. He planted a cherry tree here for me this summer after I read Memoirs of a Geisha and asked for one.
That is a very beautiful flower and since I am up late every night, it's a perfect flower.

Odette is stunning. And so are your photos!

Reddirt Woman said...

Absolutely positively one of the most beautiful flowers I've seen yet in your array of blooming beauties. If it smells like magnolia I understand leaning in for the close-up. You heard Odette say she was ready for her close up, Mr. DeMille... There are not enough adjectives to describe her beauty. Thank you for sharing.

I fell on my knee this evening. Hopefully it's just a subdermal hematoma. I posted the photos and a story...

What a lovely flower - I don't think I've seen one that's white all over (inside and out).
