I'm not sure if that cross is scary or uplifting. On the one hand it looks like it's on fire (reminding me of the KKK) and on the other it looks like it might be lit with Christmas lights. Ominous background, too.
The clouds look really gloomy... the sparkling cross stands out. Yeah, it gives a pillar of strength, light and hope to those disheartened by the gloom.
